Artistic Experimentation and Creation Workshop
directed by Leonor Morais, Visual Artist
"The thread connects all states of existence to each other and to their origin.
The thread connects all beings to each other, this world, and the other.
The thread connects puppets to the central will of the man who animates them."
— Jean Chevalier
Leonor Morais, visual artist, created this artistic residency "The Thread", composed of three workshops of experimentation and artistic creation of Drawing with three distinct moments, although connected to each other as if a thread led and interconnected them.
The focus of this project is on origin, on origins, and not on the constant need for the new that today's world demands of us. It is about reuniting different areas instead of dividing them into smaller and smaller sections, risking the extinction of many. It values humans and nature as a whole (biocentrism) and not as dominant and dominated. It seeks cooperation and integration in critical times of war and the rupture of values. With the collaboration of three invited artists - Albina Petrolati (dance), André Duarte (music), and João Luís Simões (painting) - each workshop will focus on the intersection of drawing with one of these artistic areas. The lines of the drawing will enter into dialogue with dance, voice, music, theatre, performing arts, and the ancient language of painting...
The thread, the guiding element of the workshops, is inspired by mythologies that cross different cultures and times, inviting participants to connect with the voices that echo from the past and present. The lines of the drawing will gain a poetic dimension as they intertwine with music, dance, and painting, giving rise to a universe of creative possibilities in a deep immersion in the nature that surrounds us and inhabits us. An intense procedure having the thread as the guiding element and the mythological voice as the backdrop of the work process. True moments of reflection on our impact, regeneration, and relationship with our surroundings.
After having experienced Dance and Music, it’s now the moment for connecting Drawing and Painting…
Over three days of intense work, experimentation, and sharing will become fundamental elements for the construction of a creative process that will be marked by the richness of the exchange of ideas and experiences. With a maximum of fifteen participants, in an old primary school in Barranco da Vaca, in the Sudoeste Alentejano e and Costa Vicentina Natural Park.

Joana Barroso. I am a woman, a mother, a spirited girl, and a living being, walking step by step, exploring the territories between nature, art, and education, creating landscapes between theatre, dance, poetry, and music. My soul reveals itself around the fire, and my storyteller presents herself heart-to-heart with people of all ages and generations. In singing and storytelling, she weaves a tapestry where the entire community is welcome to be lulled, connected, and reminded of what is essential in the fertility of this soil, this land, a small village, the country of Portugal... all the way to the greater fertile soil of the world, Earth, Mother, Global Village.

Catadupa is a physical theatre and music performance by Rita Rodrigues and Ricardo Lopes, wishing to be a manifest anti-non-voluntary loneliness. A team of hosts will welcome and guide the public in a stroll during the performance. We will be lead in a walk full of knowledge until we get inside D. Odete’s house, which through several actions filled with music will abandon her daily routine and give place to something new in her life, inviting spectators to a festive gastronomic moment. This project started together with both the youngster and elder community, during several ateliers and individual interviews willing to get answers to the proposal “Teach me something you know”. This Knowledge, more simple or more complex, was worked to give birth to an artistic object. The show drives the public through a path crossing different spaces and scenic areas where theatre and music frames take place, all of them related to what was collected with the community.

Cabeçudos. Cabeças Com Ideias was established in 2010 with the aim of enriching the cultural landscape dedicated to children and young audiences. At the time, the only bookstore exclusively focused on children and youth in Lisbon began hosting artists from the fields of oral storytelling, music, theater, cinema, and visual arts in its amphitheater. The initiative also sought to create moments of sharing with audiences mainly composed of families, presenting both original performances and those proposed by other cultural agents. Dedicated to promoting the arts, CABEÇUDOS' programming has secured its place on Lisbon's cultural agendas. TimeOut magazine consistently highlights it as the best thing to do with kids week after week. The continuous media coverage of its cultural agenda, coupled with the quality of the performances, has attracted more audiences and fostered loyalty among them. The awareness of the importance of introducing the arts at an early age as a facilitator for openness has been a driving force behind the frequent and regular attendance of sessions produced by CABEÇUDOS.

Amidst the threads of time, memories dance in the web of existence.
Weaving the living tapestry of Memory, the Installation Performance 'Awakening Memories' unveils an immersive spectacle that transcends time and unites the emotional fibers of Aljezur's senior community. Within this enchanted space, we witness the resurrection of objects, transformed into narrators of bygone times.
As artisans of the past and present, the participants of the Entrelaçar Program interweave traditions, knowledge, and narratives through the fusion of artistic languages. Artisans of their own stories, they transmute ordinary objects into enchanted relics, revealing our elderly as guardians of memory, sacred threads that connect the past to the future.
To the sound of ancient chants intoned by iron silhouettes, we witness a poetic dialogue between the past and the present, the visible and the invisible.
'Awakening Memories' is an immersive experience that transcends the boundaries of time. It is an intimate encounter with the essence of a community.

3 Artistic Experimentation and Creation Workshops
directed by Leonor Morais, Visual Artist
"The thread connects all states of existence to each other and to their origin.
The thread connects all beings to each other, this world, and the other.
The thread connects puppets to the central will of the man who animates them."
— Jean Chevalier
This project, directed by visual artist Leonor Morais, draws strong inspiration from authors and artists from different areas and times: from mythological texts from different regions of the world to Stephen Hawking with his book "A Brief History of Time".
Leonor Morais graduated in Painting, Drawing, and Engraving at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Lisbon. She has worked in the Educational Service of the Cascais Cultural Center and at Ar.Co - Center for Art and Visual Communication, giving special emphasis to Drawing and Engraving. She has trained teachers in visual arts, as well as master's students in early childhood education at the University of Beja, and has participated in numerous workshops, projects, and exhibitions with various recognized entities. She is a multidisciplinary artist whose career is marked by a solid academic background and varied professional experiences, developing projects in different spaces and contexts, both in Portugal and abroad.
At the invitation of Tertúlia – Associação Sócio-Cultural de Aljezur, she previously developed a drawing workshop with Architect Raquel Morais and participated in the DiVam project, together with Conceição Gonçalves, promoting the activity in the Castle of Aljezur - "Acordar Memórias do Lugar”. Currently, she is a member of the Board of Directors of Tertúlia, where she also integrates the team of this artistic residency "The Thread" - workshops of experimentation and artistic creation of Drawing in dialogue with Music, Dance, and Painting.
Influenced by the works of Leonardo Da Vinci, Paul Klee, Lygia Clark, Kiki Smith, Louise Bourgeois, Camila Sposati, Jorge Parente, and the path of many other people with whom she has worked transdisciplinary over the years - such as Conceição Gonçalves, João Luís Simões, Albina Petrolati, Concha Sacchetti, among others - she created this artistic residency "The Thread", composed of three workshops of experimentation and artistic creation of Drawing with three distinct moments, although connected to each other as if a thread led and interconnected them.
"What is called inspiration should be taken literally: there is truly inspiration and expiration of Being, breathing in Being. Action and passion so indiscernible that we no longer know who sees and who is seen, who paints and who is painted."
— Merleau-Ponty
Artists were invited to join and add even more quality to the project and help in the creative process of linking Drawing with the other area addressed in each workshop: André Duarte, with extensive training and experience in music and music production, was invited for the Drawing and Music workshop, Albina Petrolani with a long curriculum in dance and a postgraduate degree in Art and Education for the Drawing and Dance workshop, and João Luís Simões, with a degree in Architecture and a master's degree in Painting, and long experience on the field for the last Drawing and Painting workshop. There will also be other invited guests involved in this project, such as Manuela Pedroso, Maria João Castelo, and Ana Baleia, who will bring challenges and introduce news and diversity to the project.
"Man is called by the ancestors a miniature world and certainly this name is well applied, for only a man is composed of earth, water, air and fire, just as the body of the earth. If man has in him bones that are the support and armor of the flesh, the world has rocks that are the support of the earth; if man has in himself the sea of blood, in which the lungs rise and fall in breathing, the body of the earth has its oceanic sea that also rises and falls every six hours for the world to breathe. If from the so-called sea of blood veins sprout that continue to branch through the human body, similarly the oceanic sea fills the body of the earth with infinite veins of water."
— Leonardo da Vinci
The Workshops of Artistic Experimentation and Creation
"Creation can be accessed between lines, between territories..."
With the collaboration of three invited artists - Albina Petrolati (dance), André Duarte (music), and João Luís Simões (painting) - who also have a wide trajectory and a rich artistic repertoire that will certainly enrich this unique experience even more, each workshop will focus on the intersection of drawing with one of these artistic areas. The lines of the drawing will enter into dialogue with dance, voice, music, theatre, performing arts, and the ancient language of painting...
Over three days of intense work, experimentation and sharing will become fundamental elements for the construction of a creative process that will be marked by the richness of the exchange of ideas and experiences. With a maximum of fifteen participants, in an old primary school in Barranco da Vaca, in the Sudoeste Alentejano e and Costa Vicentina Natural Park.
Finally, each workshop will leave as a record a memory that can serve as inspiration for the next one, creating an invisible thread that connects the different artistic areas, artists, and participants. After the workshops and the end of the artistic residency, an exhibition/performance/installation will be held, with a date to be determined, as a memory, record, and sharing of the work processes and possible results that arise from it.
